Aurora Public Library is partnering with Denver Chess Club to host the national Tribute to MLK 2023 Tournament Saturday, Jan. 14 and Sunday, Jan. 15, at Aurora Central Library, 14949 E. Alameda Parkway. Both days start at 10 a.m., with games playing all day.

Dozens of players from across the nation will be competing in this year’s tournament, including three distinguished Grand Masters. The tournament is open to public viewing, and no registration is required.

“This collaboration with Denver Chess Club speaks to the purpose of the library to improve lives with learning opportunities for all,” said Midori Clark, director of Library and Cultural Services. “As a source of self-improvement, Chess not only fosters intellectual and creative abilities but also creates connections among community members, values that align perfectly with those at Aurora Public Library.”

“The Denver Chess Club is extremely excited to partner with the Aurora Public Library as it continues to work toward raising the reputation of the Colorado chess community by inviting three distinguished Grand Masters to play,” said Richard Shtivelband, Denver Chess Club former president and organizer of the event. “We hope the event will turn out to be very memorable for the chess community as well as a big success from which the club can build upon in future events!”
