“High Line Times” 2017
Media: Cast Aluminum/Magnesium Aircraft Alloy
Artist: Douwe Blumberg
Location: 2nd and Abilene 14051 E. Ellsworth Ave, Aurora, CO 80011
Description:
“This site motivated me to create an experiential work which would be artistically accessible to a wide and diverse audience. I chose to embrace a simple, almost child-like storytelling approach to this work. I wanted to not only visually portray some of the fascinating heritage of the area and more specifically, the High Line Canal; but to also “bridge the canal with art” by creating a linear journey to be enjoyed while moving, which seems most appropriate for a Rail station.” - Dowe Blumberg
Artist Biography:
Douwe Blumberg, the creator of numerous large public and private works nationwide and overseas, is the only artist to have been commissioned to create a sculptural artwork for Ground Zero. His body of work is uniquely diverse, reflecting a commitment to approach each project with a creative “blank slate.” It is vital to him that his artistic vision be guided solely by the site, the community and its energy rather than past ideas. His ability to work in diverse styles and mediums allows him to evolve and mature as an artist and resist stagnation by remaining open to fresh ideas. A native of Los Angeles, he now maintains a home and studio in the beautiful green countryside of Northern Kentucky.
