Youth Violence Prevention Advisory Council

Make a difference in your community and consider joining the Youth Violence Prevention Advisory Council. The advisory council is a paid youth volunteer opportunity to help curb youth violence in Aurora by advising city officials on and implementing youth-led strategies such as training, public awareness campaigns, and more. The council collaborates with Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare and will provide technical support through a youth-informed lens to other program partner agencies.

Members will serve as key stakeholders that will discuss, provide feedback and assist with program development and implementation to ensure that efforts are youth-informed to improve the delivery of services. Members seek to give a voice to other Aurora youth and offer awareness of real-life challenges, barriers and possible solutions to help support and empower others.

The advisory council is made up of youth between the ages of 14 – 24 who live or attend a school in Aurora. The city aims for a diverse group that represent the Aurora community. Youth representatives from other city youth councils are eligible to participate and serve as liaisons between the councils.

Members are asked to commit to a one-year term and are incentivized based on the number of hours they contribute each month with a gift card. Members meet on a monthly basis and participate in activities, such as attending community events and participating in community service projects to ensure youth voice is represented.
