August 2023 Update: Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us! We're incredibly grateful for the overwhelming response we have received from our community. Please bear with us as we assess availability due to an overwhelming influx of new volunteers. Your support means a lot to us!

Aurora Animal Shelter Volunteers

AURORA ANIMAL SHELTER VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are critical to the work we do serving the thousands of animals that come to the Aurora Animal Shelter each year. Together, staff and volunteers ensure that animals in our care get exercise, mental stimulation, love and companionship.

We involve volunteers in a variety of ways, including but not limited to socializing with dogs or cats, implementing brain games, assisting at adoption events and supporting staff through administrative tasks.

Volunteer Guidelines

  • The minimum age for volunteering at the Aurora Animal Shelter is 18.

  • Volunteering at the shelter is a regular commitment. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity for individuals to be involved in a single day or short term volunteer stint.

  • We ask that you commit to either a weekly or biweekly shift.

  • To start volunteering, you must complete the onboarding process which includes attending an orientation, as well as additional training. There are no "walk in" volunteer opportunities.
