Mitigation Efforts Must Be Taken Seriously to Reduce Spread of COVID-19

I have some important updates for you regarding the pandemic in our community.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment announced this week that Arapahoe County would move to Level Orange: Safer at Home - High Risk on the state's COVID-19 Dial Framework, effective at 5 p.m. Nov. 11.

This move was based on the county's COVID incidence and positivity rates, which have increased significantly since late October. Other counties along the Front Range are experiencing similar increases, including Adams County, which also is at Level Orange and where a 10 p.m. curfew is in place, and Douglas County, which is at Level Yellow: Safer at Home - Concern.

The city of Aurora has canceled all jury reporting dates between Nov. 10 and Jan. 18. If you have received a jury summons or have been rescheduled for a date that falls within the range above, you are excused and are asked not to report to the courthouse for jury duty. All jury trials at the Aurora Municipal Court have been canceled through Jan. 18. You will still be eligible to receive a jury summons in 2021 at a later date.

Since the city's recreation centers are already limiting capacity through a reservation system and restricted drop-in availability, no adjustments will need to be made to comply with Level Orange. Adjustments to capacity at Mission Viejo and Iliff Square libraries will occur starting Thursday, but all other library locations already meet the requirements.

Many city employees will continue to work remotely, except for essential personnel working in critical functions who cannot perform job duties remotely. Our goal is to continue to provide quality, reliable services and meet residents’ needs.

As we work together to reduce the spread of COVID-19, remember to limit interactions to your household only when possible, limit small gatherings, keep wearing masks and washing hands, get a flu shot, and comply with reduced capacity limits as they apply to businesses, events and other activities. Be a CPR Community Hero

Did you know that according to the American Heart Association, initiating CPR right away rather than waiting for medical personnel nearly doubles the chance of survival from cardiac arrest? That’s why Aurora Fire Rescue and Falck Rocky Mountain have partnered with PulsePoint, a smartphone application that notifies community members who sign up to help until responders arrive.

To get started, download the PulsePoint application from your smartphone app store. Find Aurora, Colorado in the locations and check the box to be notified for “Nearby CPR Needed.” You will only be notified of cardiac arrest patients in a nearby proximity and in a public place. The app also offers a glimpse into what emergencies are happening in our community in real time.
