The city of Aurora announced today that its Summer Valley Preschool has been rated by Colorado Shines, the state’s quality rating and improvement system for early care and learning programs.
City of Aurora’s Summer Valley Preschool received a Level Five rating, a testament to its commitment to providing a high-quality learning environment that supports the development of Aurora’s children. Summer Valley Preschool is the first in Arapahoe County to receive this high of a rating. This Colorado Shines rating is one way that the Aurora preschool program demonstrates its quality and dedication to continually improving the services it offers.
Growing research shows that the early years are essential to child development as 90 percent of intellect, personality and social skills are developed in the first five years of life. One in four children in Colorado enter kindergarten unprepared to keep pace with their peers – making it important for families to connect with quality child care and preschools like Summer Valley that help to prepare children for school.
Colorado Shines is a service offered through the Colorado Department of Human Services Office of Early Childhood which rates Colorado’s early care and learning programs, connects families with quality programs, and helps early care and learning programs improve quality.
The program is designed to look at how early learning programs:
• Support children’s health and safety.
• Ensure their early childhood professionals are well-trained and effective.
• Provide a supportive learning environment that teaches children new skills.
• Help parents become partners in their child’s learning.
• Demonstrate strong leadership and business practices.
The easy-to-use Colorado Shines website allows families to search for quality child care and preschool programs such as the city of Aurora’s preschool program.
