Trail & Park Detours/Closures

Canterbury Park Renovation
This project will provide exciting new features for Canterbury park. The improvements will consist of a new inclusive playground for children ages 2- 5 and 5-12 years old, shade, new walks around the park with upgraded accessibility along with site furnishings. Irrigation system modifications will provide for a water conscious landscape and select turf conversion areas to native prairie grasses.

Construction will be underway Fall 2021 and continue through Spring 2022 (weather permitting).  The entire park site will remain closed for the duration of the renovation. For more information or answers to questions, please contact John Sawatzke at 303-739-7164 or


Rome Way Closure
Rome Way will close south of Jewell before the southern entrance to the U-Haul lot. It will be closed from October 25 through October 28. For more information please call 303.744.2338.

Sand Creek and Tollgate Creek Interceptor Diversion Structures Rehab

Piney Creek Trail - Waterline Repair

Construction to repair a waterline on the south side of Arapahoe Road will impact the Piney Creek Trail access at the Saddle Rock maintenance shop. Construction will begin September 2021. Beginning October 19, crews will have large pipe and vehicles along the trail. Contractors will use the Piney Creek Trail access off Arapahoe Road near the Saddle Rock maintenance yard entrance, the Gartrell and Larkspur Park trails to access work areas in and on both sides of the creek. The trails will remain open, however please w

Piney Creek Detour
SC2 - 5 Sewer Upgrade at Smoky Hill and Quincy near Carson Park

Grandview Dog Park New Access Road/Quincy Vault Project

Construction continues at the Grandview Dog Park as part of the AW Quincy vault project.
Dog park patrons will share the access road with the construction project parking. Please GO SLOW as you enter/exit. For safety - please read and follow signage, watch for flaggers, workers and construction equipment. Please be patient, at times there will be one-way traffic. Sturgeon/Xcel Trail Closure E. Kentucky Avenue and E. Kepner Drive

Sturgeon/Xcel will close the trail NE of E. Kepner Drive between E. Kentucky Ave and S. Waco Way.  Construction will begin April 19-23, 2021.  P

Sand Creek and Sports Park Vault Enlargements

Enlargement of the vaults at Sand Creek and Sports Park. Construction activities associated with the vault installation will be confined to the southeast corner of Sports Park, including a small portion of the southeast parking lot and the trail, berm and fringe around the southeast field. Survey and design work will begin Fall 2021. Construction is expected to begin Spring 2022. Please watch for trail closures and detour signs. CIPP Rehab

Coal Creek Arena and nearby Sand Creek Open Space

Installation of power lines in the open space area north of the Stephen D. Hogan Parkway will continue. Please be aware of large equipment near and adjacent to the regional trail. If you have any questions, please call 303.739.7160.

Cherry Creek Spillway Restoration Project

The purpose of the project is to restore the spillway as close to its original configuration as practical. Construction began in early November. The contractor started in the area between Cherry Creek Reservoir and Parker Road, and is generally moving northeast from there. Earthwork should be completed late in 2021. Seeding, landscaping and stabilization will continue for most of 2022. There should not be any loaded equipment on Aurora streets. Haul routes will include some trails internal to the park. The contractor indicated that no closures are anticipated, but there will be crossings.
