Trail & Park Detours/Closures

Homestead Park
Homestead Park, 23945 E. Florida Ave., will be closed Thursday, May 19 through Monday, May 23 for playground resurfacing.

Canterbury Park Renovation
This project will provide exciting new features for Canterbury park. The improvements will consist of a new inclusive playground for children ages 2- 5 and 5-12 years old, shade, new walks around the park with upgraded accessibility along with site furnishings. Irrigation system modifications will provide for a water conscious landscape and select turf conversion areas to native prairie grasses.

Sand Creek and Tollgate Creek Interceptor Diversion Structures Rehab

SC2 - 5 Sewer Upgrade at Smoky Hill and Quincy near Carson Park

SC10 - 11 Sewer Upgrade Design work on the North side of the High Line Canal (south of E. 13th Ave and west of Laredo)
Pre-Design phase of the project continues. Geotech drilling will take place next week May 2nd - 6th. The drill rig will be partially on the trail and grass area. Pedestrians and bicyclists will be detoured around the work. Please follow signs and cones.  Construction of the project is planned for May 2023. Senac Trailhead Parking Lot and Pronghorn Trail
Construction continues on the Senac waterline March 2022. The Senac Trailhead parking lot off Quincy Avenue will remain open during construction.  The Pronghorn Trail will remain open except for approximately 2 weeks in late Spring.  The exact dates will be posted here at least 48 hours before closing. If you have questions, please email [email protected] or call 720.859.4312.

Grandview Dog Park New Access Road/Quincy Vault Project
Construction continues at the Grandview Dog Park as part of the AW Quincy vault project. 
The dog park is open during this time. Quincy Road is now fully open and the traffic control has been removed. The dog park entrance is a sharp right into the park off Quincy, please be aware of cars entering and exiting the dog park. Dog park patrons continue to share the access road with the construction workers. Please GO SLOW as you enter/exit. NO LEFT TURNS when exiting. 

For safety - please read and follow signage, watch for flaggers, workers and construction equipment. Please be patient, at times there will be one-way traffic. Construction will continue thru Summer 2022.  If you have any questions, please call 720.859.4312.

Sturgeon/Xcel Trail Closure E. Kentucky Avenue and E. Kepner Drive
Sturgeon/Xcel will close the trail NE of E. Kepner Drive between E. Kentucky Ave and S. Waco Way.  Construction will begin April 19-23, 2021.  P

Sand Creek and Sports Park Vault Enlargements
Enlargement of the vaults at Sand Creek and Sports Park. Construction activities associated with the vault installation will be confined to the southeast corner of Sports Park, including a small portion of the southeast parking lot and the trail, berm and fringe around the southeast field. Sand Creek CIPP Rehab
Rehabilitation of the sanitary sewer segment from 33rd Place to 30th Ave along Sand Creek began March 11, 2022 and will continue through early May 2022.  At this time, detours have been set up - 30th Ave will be closed to traffic for 3-4 weeks. Portions of the sidewalk and/or Sand Creek Greenway trail west of Sable at 30th will also be detoured and possibly closed for a short time during construction.  Please follow signs and detours.  If you have questions, please email [email protected] or call 720.859.4312.

Whispering Pines Trail

6th Avenue/Stephen D. Hogan Pkwy, Coal Creek Arena and nearby Sand Creek Open Space
Installation of buried power lines in the open space area west and north of the Stephen D. Hogan Parkway are complete. Please be aware of large equipment near and adjacent to the regional trail, as well as on the shoulder and crossing 6th Avenue/Stephen D. Hogan Parkway. Restoration and revegetation within the open space and along Stephen D. Hogan Parkway will begin May 2 - 5.  If you have any questions, please call 303.739.7160.

Cherry Creek Spillway Restoration Project
The purpose of the project is to restore the spillway as close to its original configuration as practical. Construction began in early November. The contractor started in the area between Cherry Creek Reservoir and Parker Road, and is generally moving northeast from there. Earthwork should be completed late in 2021. Seeding, landscaping and stabilization will continue for most of 2022. There should not be any loaded equipment on Aurora streets. Haul routes will include some trails internal to the park. The contractor indicated that no closures are anticipated, but there will be crossings.
