Piney Creek Trail - Waterline Repair

Emergency repair of a waterline in Piney Creek drainage just east of the Saddle Rock maintenance shop along the Piney Creek Trail. Construction on the south side of Arapahoe Road will impact the Piney Creek Trail access, both west and east bound at the Saddle Rock maintenance shop. Survey, design work continues. Tree trimming and removal will take place February 16.  Contractors will use the Piney Creek Trail access off Arapahoe Road near the Saddle Rock maintenance yard entrance, to access areas on both sides of the creek. The trail will remain open.  W

High Plains Trail Maintenance
High Plains Trail will be closed from Quincy Avenue to Thunder Ridge Middle School.  The connector trail will be closed for maintenance February 1 through Friday, February 5th.  Weather permitting.  Detour signs will be posted.  Please watch for maintenance vehicles and follow signs for safety. Highline Canal Bridge and Trail Repairs

Please note trail and bridge repair is taking place along the Highline Canal Trail at Colfax, just east of Airport. The connector will be closed. Construction impacting the Highline Canal Trail itself will be minimal. The majority of the work will be on the connector section.


HC Bridge

SC2 - 5 Sewer Upgrade at Smoky Hill and Quincy near Carson Park

The city will be drilling 2 geotechnical borings for an upcoming sewer line upgrade project located at Smoky Hill and Quincy near Carson Park. Design phase of the project will begin in early December 2020. Construction signs and detours will be posted on the trail near Carson Park. Grandview Dog Park New Access Road/Quincy Vault Project

Construction continues at the Grandview Dog Park as part of the AW Quincy vault project. The new entrance is open just south along Quincy.  
Dog park patrons will share the access road with the construction project parking. Please GO SLOW as you enter/exit. For safety - please read and follow signage, watch for workers and construction equipment crossing the road.  Construction will continue into Summer 2021. The dog park is open during this time. Sturgeon/Xcel Trail Closure E. Kentucky Avenue and E. Kepner Drive

Sturgeon/Xcel will close the trail NE of E. Kepner Drive between E. Kentucky Ave and S. Waco Way.  Construction will begin April 19-23, 2021.  P

Sand Creek and Sports Park Vault Enlargements

Enlargement of the vaults at Sand Creek and Sports Park. Construction activities associated with the vault installation will be confined to the southeast corner of Sports Park, including a small portion of the southeast parking lot and the trail, berm and fringe around the southeast field. Survey and design work will begin Fall 2020. Construction is expected to begin Spring 2021. Please watch for trail closures and detour signs. If you have questions, please email

Toll Gate Phase 2 - East of Chambers


Construction on the east side of Chambers for pedestrian access is progressing. Trails through this area; construction activity is high with heavy equipment on the trails and in the creek. Trail work west of Chambers near the Elk Ridge apartments and south of 6th Avenue near the RTD Station. Please watch for trail closures and detour signs. Toll Gate Confluence 
Channel - West and East of Chambers


Diversion, development and construction of Toll Gate Creek is almost complete on the west side of Chambers. Installation of trails, low water crossing and revegetation along the creek is complete. Reseeding along trails and replacement of vegetation is in progress. Trails in this area are still closed.

Construction in DeLaney Farms along Toll Gate Creek on the east side of Chambers. Trails through this area remain closed. Construction activity is high with heavy equipment on the trails and in the creek. Please watch for detour signs for the High Line Canal. Whispering Pines Trail

Construction of the trail from Irvington Court with neighborhood connections has been poured, some repairs are in progress.  Post and cable fence are being installed. The trails remain closed during construction. There will be equipment and workers daily. Cherry Creek Spillway Restoration Project

The purpose of the project is to restore the spillway as close to its original configuration as practical. Construction began in early November. The contractor started in the area between Cherry Creek Reservoir and Parker Road, and is generally moving northeast from there. Earthwork should be completed late in 2020. Seeding, landscaping and stabilization will continue for most of 2021. There should not be any loaded equipment on Aurora streets. Haul routes will include some trails internal to the park. The contractor indicated that no closures are anticipated, but there will be crossings.
