Barking Dogs

Barking dogConstant dog barking, yelping and howling can create a disturbance in the neighborhood. A very vocal dog can easily become a public nuisance. In Aurora, pet owners are responsible to ensure that their dogs are not creating a disturbance in the neighborhood (Sec. 14-72).

How to File a Barking Dog Complaint
  • Contact us at 303.326.8288 or online through Access Aurora to file your complaint.
  • Provide the exact address of the barking dog residence.
  • If possible, provide us with a basic description of the vocalizing dog.
  • Two separate households in the neighborhood must sign a complaint and be willing to potentially testify in court. (We require two households to confirm that the complaint is legitimate and is not in retaliation between feuding neighbors).
Barking Dog Complaint Process
  • A written warning from Animal Services will be sent.
  • If the barking does not improve, our officers will issue a court summons.
  • The dog owner and witnesses will be required to appear in court before a judge.
Before filing a complaint, we always encourage neighbors to politely speak with the dog's owner first. It may be possible that they are unaware that their dog is creating a disturbance.
