Fletcher Plaza

Imagine a center for creativity, culture and community.

Colfax Avenue continues to grow as a vibrant arts and theater district with new and exciting projects being envisioned and implemented for the Aurora Cultural Arts District.

The Colfax Avenue area around Fletcher Plaza is the historic center of Original Aurora. Public investment in the Aurora Fox Arts Center, Martin Luther King, Jr. Library/Municipal Services Center, medians, public art, streetscape, alleyway paving, and Fletcher Plaza have helped contribute to the area’s redevelopment, improving the overall appearance and preventing continued deterioration of property.

The Fletcher Plaza Urban Renewal Plan was first adopted in 2003. The original plan did not include a Tax Increment Financing Area; however, it indicated that one could be created in the future by way of a plan amendment.

As redevelopment started to increase within the central portion of the urban renewal area, the city amended the
Fletcher Plaza Urban Renewal Plan to delineate a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Area covering the equivalent of approximately one square block, with boundaries designed to support specific redevelopment projects.

This TIF Area contains four new food and beverage establishments to help incentivize further diversification of the neighborhood commercial tax base, complement the offerings of the Aurora Cultural Arts District, and allow for future development incentives.
