At 2214, Aurora911 dispatch received an emergency call from an eyewitness that called because their neighbor's balcony was on fire.
Aurora Fire Rescue sent several fire apparatuses to the reported fire in the neighborhood around Yale Ave & Laredo St. When fire crews arrived on-scene they found smoke coming from the front door. Firefighters went inside to determine the cause of the smoke and found a victim and heavy fire in the basement.
Fire crews worked together quickly and efficiently, to coordinate efforts on both getting the patient out of the home and fighting the fire. The firefighters that removed the patient, took the victim outside to medical personnel, where they were taken with two AFR firefighter/paramedics emergent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The fire crews that remained in the basement split up to begin fighting the fire and searching for missing people or pets. AFR completed several searches and were only able to find one person; the victim that was transported to an area hospital.
The fire in the basement was eventually brought under control and is currently under investigation. No further updates expected.
