Aurora Mini-Con is a family friendly event. Costume content should not go beyond PG-13. Attendees wearing costumes that are too revealing, inappropriate, or offensive will be asked to cover up or leave the show. For example, using only body paint, underwear, revealing swimsuits, etc. in place of clothing is not appropriate.

Offensive language of any kind is not allowed—no racial or sexual epithets, no profanity, etc.
- No sexual activity or contact—real or implied.
- No nudity—ALL costumes must adhere to the official convention rules.
- Be clever, not crass! If you think your costume or presentation might be too risqué or offensive, it probably is.
- If you have a question about your content, please feel free to ask the Staff if it is allowable.
- No fire, flame, smoke, fog, dry ice, wind machines, lasers, pressurized gases, or liquids.
- No messy substances—wet, dry, or oily. These can damage property and other costumes or accessories.
- All attendees must always wear protective footwear. No bare feet.
- Pointing weapons at anyone will NOT be tolerated.
- All decisions made by the Programming Supervisor and mini-con staff are final.
No functional weapons or props are allowed at Aurora Mini-Con. Any weapon that could seriously hurt somebody is not allowed. The following will not be permitted:

Functional firearms – that includes paintball, airsoft, bb guns, cap guns, any gun that shoots a real projectile or causes a real explosion.
- Realistic firearms – any gun that could be confused for a real gun. If it looks like a real gun, it cannot come into Aurora Mini-Con. Realistic prop guns with brightly colored caps are not allowed.
- Prop weapons made of a hard material such as metal, wood, or glass.
- Functional projectile weapons – any weapon (crossbow, slingshot, etc) that discharges a projectile.
- Blunt weapons like bats, clubs, or hockey sticks.
- Loud props such as whistles, horns, etc.
Props that ARE allowed:

Lightsabers, wands, and sonic screwdrivers.
- Costume bows are allowed, if they are inoperable and cannot shoot projectiles of any kind.
- Shields of all materials with no sharp edges.
- Lightweight plastic bats.
- Whips, Lassos, and ropes (must be zip tied or otherwise attached to your person).
- Swords constructed of light foam, plastic, or cardboard.
- Other items made from cardboard, foam, rubber, and likewise lightweight materials.
- Sci-fi or fantasy guns are allowed (e.g., Portal Guns, Han Solo blaster, phasers) if they do not resemble real firearms.
