(July 20) On Tuesday July 20th, 2021 at approximately 12:30 p.m., Aurora Police Officers responded to a domestic violence incident in the 2300 block of South Xanadu Way. The caller advised that a male was armed with a gun and a shot had already been fired in the house.
Upon officers’ arrival, they were confronted with an adult male who was armed with a gun. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation by giving numerous commands for the male to drop the gun, but he never did. A shot was fired by the male and officers returned fire, striking the male. Medical assistance was immediately called, and the male was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and is expected to survive. The victim of the initial domestic violence call was located, unharmed, and is being given support and resources by our Victim Advocates.
All uniformed officers had their department issued body-worn cameras activated at the time of the incident.
The two involved officers are 11 and 19-year veterans of the Aurora Police Department. Both officers are assigned to District One Patrol. Neither officer has been previously involved in an officer-involved shooting. The two Aurora Police Officers involved in this critical incident have been placed on administrative leave with pay per departmental policy.
The Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) for the 18th Judicial District responded and will be investigating this officer involved shooting incident. The CIRT Team for the 18th Judicial District conducts independent, multi-agency investigations into officer-involved shootings and in-custody deaths that occur in Arapahoe, Douglas, and Elbert County. As part of Police Chief Vanessa Wilson's "A New Way" Plan to rebuild trust with the community, the Aurora Police Department joined the CIRT Teams for both the 17th and 18th Judicial Districts in April of this year.

(July 15) On Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at 6:30 p.m., District 1 Patrol Officers responded to the parking lot of the McDonald’s, located at 2651 South Parker Road, on reports of a shooting.
The Aurora Police Major Crimes/Homicide Unit is announcing the arrest of Treyvion Simpson (DOB: 04/27/1999). Simpson was arrested today, July 15, 2021, and has been charged with Colorado Revised Statute
18-3-102 Murder in the First Degree in relation to this homicide. The
booking photo for Simpson has been provided at the bottom of this news release.
We want to thank the Aurora Police Major Crimes/Homicide Unit for their continued work on this case as well as the Aurora Police SWAT and F.A.S.T Unit and Denver SWAT for assisting in today's arrest.

(June 29) On Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at 6:30 p.m., District 1 Patrol Officers responded to the parking lot of the McDonald’s, located at 2651 South Parker Road, on reports of a shooting.
Officers located an adult male who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. This male was quickly transported to the hospital by paramedics but has tragically died from his injuries. This case is being investigated by our Major Crimes Homicide Unit and detectives will work to determine what exactly led up to this shooting. The only suspect information available at this time is that the suspect was driving a silver vehicle.
The name of the victim will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office after a positive identification and notification of next-of-kin.

On July 4th, 2021 at 11:37p.m. the Aurora Police Department responded to a three car crash on North Havana Street just south of North Del Mar Parkway.
The preliminary investigation reveals the following:
A Nissan Rouge and Chrysler Town and Country minivan were traveling southbound on North Havana Street. After they passed North Del Mar Parkway a Chevy Avalanche that was traveling northbound on Havana Street crossed the centerline and struck the Nissan head on. The Nissan then struck the minivan which was in the lane next to it.
The three occupants of the Avalanche then ran from the scene. The adult male driver and adult female passenger of the Nissan were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Tragically, the women succumb to her injuries and was pronounced at the hospital. The occupants of the minivan were not injured in the crash.
The identity of the deceased women is not being released at this time and will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office once she has been positively identified and her next of kin have been notified.
Havana Street was closed for several hours as Traffic Investigators processed the crash scene.
Anyone who witnessed this crash or anyone with information about the identity of the occupants of the at-fault vehicle who fled the scene are asked to call the Aurora Police Traffic Investigations Unit or Metro Denver Crime Stoppers. The Aurora Police Department will be conducting a Stationary Roadside Sobriety Checkpoint on Saturday June 26th, 2021, from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. This is part of our continuing commitment to the statewide effort to combat drunk drivers and reduce alcohol related traffic accidents and fatalities. This checkpoint is part of the DUI Checkpoint Colorado program, which kicks off Memorial Day weekend, continuing through Labor Day weekend. This checkpoint will be located on E. Alameda Ave.
Motorists passing through the checkpoint will be contacted briefly by an officer who will be looking for signs of intoxication and/or impairment in the driver. The checkpoint should cause only minor inconvenience to traffic along the targeted roadway, and highly visible signage will be posted leading into the checkpoint screening area. Drivers entering a checkpoint are asked to pay close attention to the officers directing traffic through the area. Motorists should also roll down their drivers’ side window as they approach the screening area. This allows for better communication between the motorist and the officer, quicker screening, and a shorter delay overall.
The checkpoint is funded by an N.H.T.S.A. (National Highway Transportation Safety Administration) grant in partnership with the “Heat is On” campaign and administered by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).

(June 2, 2021) On Monday, May 31, 2021, the Aurora Police Department received a report pertaining to allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct involving a suspect, Enrique de Jesus Carrillo-Rivera (DOB: 07/02/2002), a classroom monitor who was employed by the Aurora Public School District and worked at Vaughn Elementary School.
Investigators are still working to investigate this matter. At this time, limited information is being released as to protect the integrity of this very active, open investigation. Aurora Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Detectives are investigating this incident as well as seeking any information about potential victims that haven’t been reported involving Carrillo-Rivera. The Aurora Police Department is working closely in conjunction with the Aurora Public School District.
On June 1, 2021, Carrillo-Rivera was arrested and booked into the Aurora City Jail on the following charges: Internet Luring of a Child and Internet Sexual Exploitation of a Child. Carrillo-Rivera is no longer employed by the Aurora Public School District.
It is possible that there are additional persons who may have been victimized by Carrillo-Rivera and have not yet reported it. The Aurora Police Department is asking anybody who is a witness or has information about circumstances surrounding this investigation to please call the Internet Crimes Against Children Tip-Line at (303) 739-6164. If there are any additional victims who are wishing to report to police, they are asked to call Police Dispatch at (303) 627-3100 immediately. A photo is being released to the public in the event that there are additional victims who have not yet come forward in filing a report with Police.

On May 1st, 2021 at approximately 3:00a.m. the Aurora Police Department responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on North Fitzsimons Parkway and North Victor Street.
Initial investigation revealed that a passing motorist noticed a motorcycle laying on the side of Fitzsimons Parkway. When he stopped to investigate he found the unconscious and unresponsive adult male rider several feet away from the motorcycle.
The rider was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. His identity is not being released at this time and will be released by the Adams County Coroner's Office once he has been positively identified and next of kin have been notified.
The cause of this crash is under investigation by the Aurora Police Traffic Investigations Unit. Anyone who witnessed this crash is asked to call police.

On Sunday, March 21st, 2021, at approximately 10:00 a.m., District 1 Patrol Officers responded to a welfare check at Front Range Tire located at 3005 South Peoria Street.
Once on scene, officers located an adult male on the ground, next to the building. This male had obvious trauma injuries and was declared deceased on scene. The male was taken to the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office and an autopsy was completed. It has been determined that the male was shot multiple times which led to his death. This case is now classified as a homicide and will be investigated by our Major Crimes Homicide Unit. Because this is an active investigation, there is no additional information to share.
The name of the victim was released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office after he was positively identified as Vincent Brown (09/16/1998).

On Wednesday March 3rd, 2021, at approximately 4:25p.m, District 1 Patrol Officers responded to a report of a shooting at the Telegraph Hills II Condos, which are located in the 12000blk of E. Harvard Avenue in Southwest Aurora.
Upon arrival officers located an adult male in the parking lot who had been shot. He was transported to a local hospital where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
This case is still an active investigation and at this time there is no additional information to share. Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no danger to the general public.
The name of the victim will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office once he has been positively identified and his next of kin have been notified.

(February 14) On Friday, January 22, 2021, at approximately 12:34 p.m., Aurora police officers responded to a homicide on North Beeler Street and East Colfax Avenue where one adult male was found dead.
The Aurora Police Major Crimes/Homicide Unit is announcing the arrest of Jerome Deshun Johnson (DOB: 10/11/1986). Johnson was arrested on Friday February 12, 2021 and has been charged with Colorado Revised Statute 18-3-102 Murder in the First Degree in relation to this homicide. The booking photo for Johnson has been provided with this news release.
This homicide is being prosecuted by the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office and any additional media inquiries should be directed there.

(January 22, 2021) On Friday January 22, 2021, at approximately 12:34 p.m., Aurora police officers responded to the southeast corner of North Beeler Street and East Colfax Avenue on multiple reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival officers located an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound in a vehicle. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators from the Major Crimes/Homicide Unit responded to the scene and are actively investigating to gain more information on a suspect(s) and what led up to the fatal shooting.
The identity of the deceased will be released by the Adams County Coroner’s Office after he has been positively identified, and his next-of-kin have been notified.

(February 2, 2021) On Sunday July 5th, 2020 at 1:45 a.m., a 31-year-old man was shot to death on East Colfax Avenue at North Beeler Street.
Today, the Aurora Police Major Crimes/Homicide Unit is announcing the arrest of Dontavious Hetzel (9/13/1992) for Accessory to 1st Degree Murder for his role in the murder on July 5th, 2020.
Dontavious was arrested by local law enforcement in Georgia yesterday and is awaiting extradition to Colorado.
We want to thank our law enforcement partners in Georgia for their work and our Major Crimes Detectives for their continued dedication to this case.
We should also mention that Master Titus Uriah Martin (4/19/2000) was arrested September of 2020 for his warrant of 1st Degree Murder.

On Sunday July 5th, 2020 at 1:45 a.m., a 31-year-old man was shot to death on East Colfax Avenue at North Beeler Street. The identity of the deceased can be confirmed by the Adam’s County Coroner’s Office.
Today, the Aurora Police Major Crimes/Homicide Unit is announcing they have obtained a First-Degree Murder warrant for the arrest of Master Titus Uriah Martin born April 19th, 2000, in relation to the July 5th homicide. In an effort maintain the integrity of the ongoing criminal investigation, and the subsequent prosecution, the Aurora Police Department will not be publicly releasing a photo of Master Martin at this time.
Master Martin is believed to be armed, and a danger to our community. While the Aurora Police Department continues to work tirelessly to locate and safely apprehend Master Martin, we are also hopeful he will turn himself in.

(July 5th, 2020) Early this morning at approximately 1:45 A.M., Aurora Police Officers were called to the area of East Colfax Avenue and North Beeler Street on reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a 31-year-old on the ground who had been shot. The male was transported to an area hospital where, unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
The victim’s identity will be released by the Adams County Coroner’s Office once he has been positively identified and his next of kin have been notified.
Investigators from the Major Crimes/Homicide Unit responded to the scene and actively investigating. At this early stage in the investigation, it is unknown what led up to the incident and there is no suspect information.
