UPDATE: The Aurora Police Reward Fund is also matching the Crime Stoppers $2,000 reward, for a total reward of up to $4,000, with information about this incident.

The Aurora Police Major Crime Homicide Unit is continuing to ask for the public’s assistance regarding this vehicle fire.  The vehicle, a blue SUV, was pulled over and stopped on the shoulder of the highway, southbound, just south of the on-ramp from E Colfax Ave from Saturday night into early Sunday morning, approximately 1:00 a.m. The vehicle would have been in this location prior to catching fire.  If you happened to be driving in the area and observed the vehicle, the occupant(s) or any other vehicle stopped with it, you are encouraged to contact the lead investigator, Detective Chad Lampson, at 303-739-6013 or Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Individuals who contact Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and still be eligible for the reward of up to $2,000.

Information previously released on September 8th, 2019:

On September 8th, 2019, around 01:00 A.M., officers responded to the area of southbound Interstate 225 near East Colfax Avenue on reports of a vehicle fire.

Once the fire had been extinguished by Aurora Fire Rescue, an unidentifiable body was found inside of the vehicle. Information is limited at this time.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office once a positive identification has been made, and next of kin has been notified.

Due to the suspicious nature of this death, the Aurora Police Major Crimes/Homicide Unit is handling this investigation. Aurora Police is asking anyone with information about this case to contact Agent Lampson with the Major Crimes/Homicide Unit at 303-739-6013. Tipsters can also use Metro Denver Crime Stoppers by calling 720-913-7867. By using Crime Stoppers tipster can remain anonymous and be eligible for a $2,000 reward.
