On May 21st, 2020, at 6:29 p.m., Aurora Police Officers responded to reports of a fight that led to a shooting at Utah Park located at 1800 South Peoria Street. All involved parties fled the scene prior to officer’s arrival.
A short time later officers learned an adult male was dropped off, by an unknown party, at an area hospital with a gunshot wound, and was in critical condition. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the deceased will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office once he has been positively identified, and his next of kin have been notified.
A second male arrived at an area hospital with a gunshot wound and is expected to survive. This male arrived via ambulance from a location in Arapahoe County.
At this time, we do not have anyone in custody, and are actively working to determine who the suspect(s) are. At this early stage in the investigation we believe this was an isolated incident, and there is not an immediate danger to the public.
This incident is now being investigated as a Homicide by the Aurora Police Department Major Crimes/Homicide Unit. We are asking anyone with information about this case to call Agent Huber at 303.739.6090 or they can remain anonymous by contacting Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867) and be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.

- Paint brush, sponges or Q-tips
- Sharpies & fine-tip Sharpie or pen
- Table salt
On May 18th, 2020, at around 9:57 P.M., the Aurora Police Department Public Safety Communications Center received reports of a shooting at 2221 South Havana Street, InTown Suites.
Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition last night but this morning he has unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
This is still an active investigation and investigators from the Major Crimes/Homicide Unit are working to determine what led to the shooting and death of the victim. His identity will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office once he has been positively identified and his next of kin have been notified.

On 05/16/20 at 7:45 P.M. Aurora Fire Rescue and Aurora Police Officers were dispatched to a single car accident in the intersection of E. Alameda Ave. and S. Lima St. When Aurora Fire and Police arrived they found a white Chrysler 300 partially in the street, the driver and passenger were removed from the vehicle by good Samaritans. Both adults were transported to area hospitals, it was at the hospital where the adult passenger died of his injuries. The driver of the vehicle is currently in critical condition.
It appears that the Chrysler 300 was traveling west on E. Alameda Ave. and hit the north curb/gutter pan, the vehicle drove up on the sidewalk, lost control and struck a tree on the north side of the street.
This in an on-going investigation by the Aurora Police Traffic Investigations unit. The identity of the passenger is not being released at this time, the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office will make notifications at a later date. At this time it appears that alcohol and speed will be contributing factors in this accident.

Review of "The Winter People" by Jennifer McMahon

After moving to Colorado earlier this year my friends back in Wisconsin still wanted to keep in touch and what better way than a book club! Thanks to technology I have been able to virtually attend the meetings and we catch up and of course talk about what we thought of the books we picked for the meeting. I decided to also share my thoughts of these books to the awesome readers like you!
The first book we kicked off for our 2020 book club was “The Winter People” by Jennifer McMahon. I am a big fan of thriller/suspense novels so I was very pleased to find a thriller/ghost story novel on our list of books.
Jennifer McMahon is a New York Time’s bestselling author of works like “Promise Not To Tell” and “Island of Lost Girls”. The majority of her books could be categorized under thriller/suspenseful fiction with some elements of paranormal activity.
“The Winter People” takes place in West Hall, Vermont, which seems to be a place where strange happenings occur. It all seems to start with a woman named Sara Harrison Shea. In 1908, she is found dead behind her house not long after the tragic death of her daughter, Gertie. Then, in present day with 19-year-old Ruthie who happens to live in Sara’s old farmhouse with her mother Alice and younger sister Fawn. One day Alice vanishes without a trace. While Ruthie and Fawn try to gather clues about their mother’s whereabouts, they happen upon a copy of Sara Harrison Shea’s diary. The story jumps back and forth between the diary entries in 1908 and present day where similarities may come to pass and history may be doomed to repeat itself.
I greatly enjoy narratives like this that jump back and forth. At first it may be a little hard to keep track of all the characters in play in the story but once you get going you find it easier to sort out the events in 1908 with Sara, her husband Marty and their daughter Gertie, and present day which includes Ruthie and Fawn. McMahon does a great job of weaving the separate stories but ultimately entwining them. Add in the chilling ghost stories and the missing people and you get hooked. I found myself wanting to keep reading Sara’s diary entries more than Ruthie’s accounts in present day because that seemed to be where the real story is.
You feel for these characters, especially Sara, due to the loss of her child, Gertie. You sympathize with her actions and justify her means of coping with the sudden loss. The story twists and turns because you wonder whether ghosts really exist in this town and if it’s “cursed.” However, the one flaw I found was that the ending seemed to be underwhelmed. The story wraps up rather quickly and the decisions made by some of the characters didn’t seem to be realistic. All in all, if you enjoy multiple narratives from different points in time with a thriller and suspense feel to it – this is your book!
