Aurora’s 2nd Annual Unity Peace March will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016. The mile-long March will begin with speakers at Aurora Central High School at 10:00 a.m. Marchers will make their way through the neighborhood and finish at Spencer Garrett Park at Joliet Street and 16th Avenue where there will be a resource fair, free food, music, dance, the Mobile Playground, youth sports, activities, and games.
The Unity Peace March is hosted by Gang Rescue and Support Project (GRASP) and Aurora’s Gang Reduction Impact Program (A-GRIP), a coalition of agencies including: The Juvenile Assessment Center; Aurora for Youth; Metro Denver Partners/GRASP; Mile High Behavioral Healthcare; Friends for Youth; Hood Monsters (an acronym for Holding Our Own Destiny, Making Our Neighborhoods Stronger Through Education, Respect and Self-esteem). Other contributing sponsors include the New Dawn Center for Spiritual Living; Aurora Mental Health Center; Aurora Strong Resilience Center; Aurora Youth Options; Boettcher Boys & Girls Club; and the Colorado Foundation for Public Health and the Environment.
About GRASP:
GRASP is a peer-run, intervention program that works with youth who are at-risk of gang involvement or are presently active in gangs. GRASP helps families of gang victims, and serves as a youth advocate. GRASP works well because it is primarily run by ex-gang members who broke free of the gang life-style and turned their lives around. The staff understands how difficult it is to make this transition and the challenges facing youth who do. Established in 1991 after a tragic ‘drive-by’ shooting death of a teen, GRASP has evolved into a highly respected and successful program of Metro Denver Partners, a non-profit organization that for over 45 years has helped kids to better futures through one-on-one mentoring.
About A-GRIP:
A-GRIP is a comprehensive network of providers who coordinate services that are designed to prevent youth from becoming involved in gangs and provide intervention programs to young people (ages 14-24) who are actively involved in the gang lifestyle. These services include: youth risk assessments; sport leagues; pro-active street outreach; case management; mentoring; pro-social activities; educational and court advocacy; job readiness training; employment assistance; tattoo removal; support groups; and mediation to de-escalate gang tensions in the community. A-GRIP is also committed to generating greater gang awareness among youth, parents, schools, youth-serving organizations and our community.

Aurora, CO.- July 22, 2016, 6:45 p.m.- Aurora PD patrol and Traffic officers responded to the intersection of E. Colfax Ave. and Jasper Street on a report of a motorcycle crash. Upon arrival investigation revealed a motorcycle, driven by, Joseph Alfredo Chavez, 44yo, of Denver, was eastbound on E. Colfax Ave. when according to witnesses a forest green in color late model Ford Ranger with a matching bed topper made a left turn from southbound Jasper Street in front of the motorcycle. Chavez attempted to brake but lost control and went down onto the pavement, flipping over. The Ford Ranger did not stop and continued eastbound on E. Colfax Ave. Chavez was not wearing a helmet and sustained severe life threatening injuries to his head. He was transported to University of Colorado Hospital for emergency medical treatment, however Chavez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced on July 25th, 2016 at 9:19 p.m.
The Aurora Police Traffic Section is investigating this crash under report# 2016-29148. We are asking for anyone that may have witnessed the crash, or knowledge of the green in color Ford Ranger, to contact the Aurora Police Traffic Investigations Unit at 303-739-6202. Again we are looking for a late model Ford Ranger, forest green in color with a matching bed topper.
This is the 12th traffic related fatality for the City of Aurora this year.

Aurora, CO.- July 24, 2016, 10:45 p.m. - Aurora P.D. patrol and Traffic officers responded to the area of S. Chambers Road and Crestline Ave. on a report of a single vehicle crash. Upon arrival the investigation revealed a black in color Ford Explorer was northbound on S. Chambers Road from S. Parker Road, and according to witnesses, traveling at a high rate of speed. When attempting to make it around a curve the vehicle lost control, struck the curb line, and then struck several signal light poles, causing it to roll. Both occupants, a 31 yo. male, and a 28 yo. female were ejected from the vehicle. Both were taken to local hospitals for treatment and the female later died from her injuries while in surgery. It is unknown at this time which occupant was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. The male is currently in stable condition.
The Aurora Police Traffic Section is investigating this crash under report # 2016-29430. We are not releasing names at this time. We believe alcohol intoxication, speeding, and not wearing seatbelts were all contributing factors in this crash. This is the 11th traffic related fatality this year for the City of Aurora.

Aurora, Colorado-The Aurora Police will be holding a press conference to brief the media about the circumstances related to a missing person case of Lashaya Nae Stine 16 years old. Lashay was last seen July 15, 2016 at 2:30 a.m.. The conference will take place today at the front entrance of North Middle School (12095 East Montview Blvd ) at 3:30 p.m.. The Major Crimes/Homicide Unit has arrested Caterrius L. Martin DOB 08/23/82 for First Degree Murder in relation to the homicide investigation reported on July 18th, 2016 at 10782 East Exposition Avenue. Martin is currently being held at the Arapahoe County Jail with no bond. A photograph of Martin will not be released at this time as the incident is still being investigated. This is all the information that is available at this time.
The Majors Crime/Homicide unit is not looking for any other parties involved at this time. Aurora Police is asking anyone with information about this case to contact Agent M. On Monday July 18th, 2016 at 12:04 a.m. officers responded to 10782 East Exposition Avenue in Aurora. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male with a gunshot wound. The male was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Due to this being an active and ongoing investigation there is not any suspect information available, nor have there been any arrests made. The identity of the deceased will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office once a positive identification has been made, and next of kin has been notified.
Detectives and investigators from the Major Crimes/Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigations Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation.

Residents of Aurora are invited to celebrate National Night Out (NNO) with the Aurora Police Department and the rest of the country on Tuesday, August the 2nd. NNO is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community
partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. The goal of the campaign is to make Aurora a safer place.
The Police Area Representative Team for District 3, which serves the Southeast area of Aurora has announced the District's plans for the evening. A caravan of police officers and department vehicles will be traveling to and visiting NNO events throughout the District. Below is a list of their scheduled stops.

Aurora Police Department’s K9 Deuce will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Deuce’s vest is sponsored by a fundraiser hosted by Erick Bumpass of Aurora, CO and will be embroidered with the sentiment “Bless this K9 in memory of Officer Doug Byrne”. Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) charity located in East Taunton, MA whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. The non-profit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided over 1,900 protective vests, in 49 states, through private and corporate donations, at a cost of over 1.7 million dollars. All vests are custom made in the USA by Armor Express in Central Lake, MI.
The program is open to dogs actively employed in the U.S. with law enforcement or related agencies who are certified and at least 20 months of age. New K9 graduates, as well as K9s with expired vests, are eligible to participate.
The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K9 is $1,050.00. Each vest has a value between $1,795 – $2,234 and a five-year warranty, and an average weight of 4-5 lbs. On Saturday July 9, 2016 at 3:31 p.m. officers responded to 364 South Ironton Street Apartment 428 in Aurora. Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive adult male. Officers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the male. The male was then transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
There was an adult female involved who remained at the scene. This is an ongoing investigation, and there have not been any arrests made. Police are not looking for any other parties at this time. The identity of the involved adult female will not be released, and the identity of the deceased was released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office.

At about 8:36 AM, personnel with the Aurora Police department responded to S. Gartrell Rd., near the on ramp to westbound E-470 tollway, on a report of an auto vs. motorcycle crash.
Initial investigation indicates that an adult female was riding a motorcycle alone, southbound on S. Gartrell Rd. Additionally an adult female was driving an SUV alone, northbound on S. Gartrell Rd., and this motorist turned left, to the westbound E-470 on ramp, in the path of travel of the motorcyclist, causing a collision.
The motorcyclist was severely injured and was transported to a local hospital. Although she was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, she succumbed to her injuries.
The motorist in the SUV was uninjured, and remained at the scene, she is cooperating with investigators.
At this time, no alcohol or drug impairment is suspected. In addition, speed does not appear to be a factor.
The Aurora Police Traffic Section has taken over the investigation, and upon conclusion will recommend possible traffic and / or criminal charges if appropriate.
As this is an ongoing investigation, no further information will be released at this time.
All motorists are reminded, especially during warm weather months, to be extra mindful of motorcycles’ traveling the roadway.
