Environment Aurora

In Aurora, we understand the environment is a precious resource, so city staff work hard to preserve it. Hundreds of acres of open space have been acquired so future generations can also enjoy the natural areas that make Colorado such a great place to live. Numerous citywide policies are in place to ensure that we are developing environmentally friendly programs and educating employees about the important role they play in Aurora’s continuing efforts to be environmentally conscious.

Some of those efforts are obvious, like the city’s office recycling program. Others are more complex environmental procedures that

ensure day-to-day operations are meeting – if not exceeding- standards. And we let our residents know about those efforts and other important issues that might affect them.

These days, the goal in most cities is to be “sustainable” – a concept that essentially means using our natural, economic and social resources wisely, in part to ensure that those same assets are available for years to come.

But we can’t achieve this goal alone. Each one of us needs to recognize the importance of preventing pollution, complying with environmental requirements and conserving natural resources. And everyone should always be mindful of looking for ways to improve.

This is our city, and our efforts to preserve our environment today will make a difference in the quality of life tomorrow.

Ron Miller
City Manager, Aurora
